giving runners of all ages and abilities the opportunity to get active & have fun!

about the fort mcmurray marathon

Every fall in Fort McMurray, Alberta, hundreds of runners come to MacDonald Island Park to participate in an annual community event formerly known as the Fort McMurray Half Marathon. Building on the continued success and tremendous support the event has gained momentum evolving into the Fort McMurray Marathon, now offering a full-length marathon to participants. Each year the Organizing Committee strives to provide a fantastic experience for participants, adding new and exciting runner experiences each year.

This day of outdoor fun & fitness will take place on Sunday, September 16 2018. Runners will have the opportunity to register for one of six race distances, including  a full marathon (42.2km), half marathon (21.1km), 10km, 5km, 3km and a kid’s fun run. The day-long event festivities has something to offer all levels of runners and spectators, including music, food, prizes, family fun, partnership activations and much more!

Part of the continued success of this event has been its ability to attract runners with a wide variety of athletic abilities, and as we’ve grown together, the support of our local running community has been critical to moving toward our long-term vision for this event. This strong base paired with the support of our corporate partners, presents an opportunity to pursue our vision of putting Fort McMurray on the race map and attracting new runners from other communities across Canada!
